How to Change a Flat Tire

1. Find a safe spot to pull over: Pull as far onto the shoulder as possible, making you visible, yet a safe distance from oncoming cars. If you're on a major highway, try getting off at the nearest exit. Put your vehicle in park with the emergency brake, making sure you are on a flat surface.

2. Turn on your hazard lights: This will warn other drivers to avoid you.

3. Get the jack, wrench and spare tire: These tools will help you remove and exchange the flat tire. If you don't have these tools, call someone who can assist you or call our Honda Plus Roadside Assistance: 1-800-465-PLUS (7587)

4. Use the wrench to loosen the lug nuts: Lug nuts are the fasteners that secure your hubcap. Loosen them by turning the wrench left.

5. Use the jack to lift the car: Your owner's manual will have information about where you should put the jack to support your vehicle but generally, your vehicle will have a small indent in the framework near the wheel where you can insert the jack. Jack up the car until the tire is roughly 6 inches off the ground.

6. Put the spare on your car: Line up the lug nuts with the holes on your spare and push the tire onto the wheel base until it can't go any further.

7. Tighten the lug nuts: Don't tighten them too much until your car is securely on the ground.

8. Lower your car to ground level and secure the lug nuts: Use the jack to bring your car back to ground level and remove it from underneath your car. Tighten the lug nuts until each lug nut is as tight as it can be.

9. Put all your tools back in your trunk: Make sure you haven't left any debris on the side o the road.

10. Be cautious: Be aware you are using a spare tire and get to your destination safely.
